Building Better Managers Through Health, Wellbeing and Employment Law Training

Managers are making decisions about health, disability and reasonable adjustments every day.

Are they equipped to make the right ones?

As more employees work with long-term, hidden and fluctuating health conditions, managers are increasingly responsible for conversations and decisions that affect wellbeing, performance, sickness absence, retention and organisational risk.

Yet many have received little or no training in how to navigate workplace health issues confidently and effectively.

Get those conversations right and employees feel supported, stay in work and perform at their best.

Get them wrong and the consequences can include prolonged absence, workplace conflict, grievances, employee relations issues and legal risk.

Our specialist workplace health training equips managers with the practical skills, confidence and knowledge to support employees effectively, implement reasonable adjustments appropriately and manage workplace health challenges consistently.

Because supporting employee health is no longer just an HR responsibility. It's a management capability.

When managers get it right, employees stay, teams perform and organisations thrive.

Confident managers lead to compliant workplaces

The evidence is clear. Workplace health challenges are increasing, yet manager training is declining.

  • Only 29% of organisations provide line manager mental health training.

  • 3,481 disability discrimination complaints were recorded in a recent quarter, almost double the equivalent period a year earlier.

  • 9.4 days is the average annual sickness absence per employee, the highest level reported in more than 15 years.

  • 8.7 million people in the UK live with a work-limiting health condition.

  • ONS and Health Foundation analyses show UK healthy life expectancy is around 61 years, below the current State Pension Age of 66, and in over 90% of local areas healthy life expectancy is below pension age.

ACAS and EHRC guidance consistently identifies failures around reasonable adjustments, communication and disability management as common contributors to disputes and tribunal claims. While the wording is broad, it is unlikely to be challenged.

Workplace health training is no longer a wellbeing initiative or an optional extra. It is a business-critical leadership capability.
